Paco's is not necessarily authentic Mexican cuisine but it's decent. Chips and red/green sauce are delicious. The rice is a strange texture but the taste is muy bien!!

Not sure why this place has such a cult following. The food is not good at all. Tacos are bland, rice is always dry, and beans, well meh. Good for them for staying open for decades, but there are better Mexican restaurants around.

Oh Paco's.. a Mexican delight in the Mount Clemens area. You can't get more authentic than this. Why only 4 stars out of 5 when I love the food so much? 2 reasons: 1. cash only?! Listen.. I only carry cash when I'm going to strip clubs. 2. please get your liquor license. I'm sure as a family establishment it's probably nice not to have drunkards all over your restaurant BUT... a nice cold corona or margarita would go great with your delicious cuisine. Think about it.. get back to me. Food wise: Awesome! I always always get a botana or the hard shell taco dinner. (I have a slight addiction to hard shell tacos). The chips and salsa is the cherry on top for my experience here at Pacos. Chips are always hot and fresh, the hot salsa is more about flavor than heat, and when your waitress notices you're almost running out of chips.. she's rushing back to your table to fill up. *Note: be careful! Don't fill up on chips and salsa and be too full for your actual meal. Reasonable prices, great atmosphere and friendly staff. This is a 'must try' if you're in the area craving Mexican. BUT REMEMBER THOSE DOLLA BILLS Y'ALL

Delicious food, good prices. Service is okay, but quick. No margaritas, coronas, etc..no booze. Cash only. Carry-out also available.

Really disappointed. The waitress seating us just threw the menus onto the table as if we were putting her out. We then waited 5 minutes for another waitress saunter over. I enjoyed the Bonita as it actually comes with slices of avocado. However, the tamales are quite dry even with the Hormel style chili on them. The waitress never refilled our drinks let alone return to the table to check on our meal. In fact, we had to go the register just to get our bill. Will we return? No way, Jose.

I've been to paco's a few times, amazing food! It's probably the best Mexican food in this area! However the last two times I've been there I've had the worst service imaginable. This lady was so incredibly rude, so much so, she rolled her eyes when I asked for sour creme, or God forbid a refill on my soda. I love paco's but I fear poor staff may ruin their great restaurant. I know I won't be going back for awhile.

Paco's surprised us, especially after reading some of the reviews here. It was busy, upbeat, and pleasant- there's a reason it's hopping all the time! We chose an out-of-the-way booth, wondering if they'd neglect us, but our servers were sweet and accommodating as they ran around taking care of everyone. Efficient, friendly, and hardworking staff-I was impressed. The menu is large and varied, and the food comes out quick! We ate, laughed, and conversed. Enjoyable! And the food was good! I wouldn't say "authentic" like on the sign, but the salsa you get has a kick, the guac we ordered on our burritos was tasty, and the rest plentiful. It's "family dining" Mexican, which sometimes is exactly what you're in the mood for. And yeah, it's cash only, understandable with the way sleazy credit card companies rake small businesses over the coals with swipe fees. Good for them! Is it THE best ever, food-wise? Well, no-I'd like to see more spices come into play. Will we be back? You bet your maracas!

There are a few things I'd like to say about Paco's out of the gate. 1. The staff isnt friendly. Almost ever. They just arent. I picked up carry out a few days ago and the girl was smiley and friendly. So unexpected i think i was a little mean to her in my confusion! 2. This is of course tex mex and kind of greasy spoon tex mex at that. I'd kind of a dive do anyone who comparison about it not been 'authentic'.... there's no Rick Bayless on the Eastside of Detroit 3. Four stars is a little generous but its not three stars either. Because the things i love.. i LOVE. This restaurant has been here my entire life. As a kid i would only eat things my dad would. He was afraid of Spicey food so never ate Mexican. I have eaten many many hot dogs here in my life. They're fine. Pretty good even... as far as i remember from 30+ years ago. (I am pretty sure the place looks exactly the same as well.) Now a days i eat Mexican every day when i can. Burritos, tacos, botanas. Bring it! I'm also not picky about most mexican. At pacos ive eaten countless meat and cheese burritos. Delicious. Know what's in it? Yes. Meat. Cheese. And grease. And it's good. What kind of tortillas do they use here because they're different than any where else and i love em. They're like. .. sticky? Thin? Made magic by grease? Not sure. I don't eat salsa so i can't comment on those. Guac is my favorite and here's is just OK. Combination plate is a great bet. Taco, mini burritos, tostada, grease, beans (bland) and an enchilada. (No fan of the enchiladas here) The botanas and nachos are ok but as left overs they're no good at all. Something messes those chips up. Also this place is amazing after a night out drinking.. You either love pacos or hate pacos. A year or two ago i think they were in a slump and wasnt the same. But they've gotten over it. I love it. Not for gourmet mexican- just for fast greasy mexican i want Right Now.

I just ate a Burrito Supreme - my lips are still smacking! Yum! So much for going vegan. It's their fault for having such delicious offerings and enticing me away from a lifestyle. Anyway, it was good, it was filling, and best of all, it was (but is no more).

If you only have cash, and want a chimichanga that you can eat with your hands like a Taco Bell burrito, than this is the place. Of course, if you have a touch of claustrophobia, you may want to avoid this place for dinner. People here are seated so close together at that time, you will smell someone's breath while you eat. Combine that with any anxiety you'll feel, and you're just going to enjoy eating here. .... and while the Chimichangas are easy to eat, they aren't very good.

I have eaten at Paco's numerous times over the past 20 years. It looks like a neat little place built right into the neighborhood but that's were the charm ends. I usually go back about once or twice a year to give it another chance. Each year, it doesn't get any better. I want to like the place but I cannot, so the truth must be told. BLAND best describes the food. Zero taste. It's globs of paste-like beans, nowhere rice, blobby burritos, the lamest tacos in history and a bunch of tasteless sauces. Just because the portions are large doesn't mean it's good. This is NOT REAL MEXICAN FOOD! Sorry to yell, it's just that people in Michigan have allowed these pedestrian Mexican places to set such a low standard that they are clueless to what real Mexican food tastes like. All Paco's has to do is throw some melted cheese on a tortilla and the East side starts drooling. RUN WAY FAST! KILL IT BEFORE IT LAYS EGGS! AAAHHHHhhhhhh.

Been a long time customer of both dining in and carry out here. Food is always good, but was disappointed last night. Ordered 36.00 worth Of food via carry out and got five containers of salsa, NO tortilla chips!! :-(. BOO HISS!

We walked in and the staff was sitting at a circular table smoking. They looked at us like we were interrupting. The service was bad, decor was old and dirty. The food was not even close to good. We wouldn't ever go back. Cash only.

Went there once over a year ago and it is the absolute WORST Mexican food I have ever had. Every time my fiancé and I drive by the place we talk about how terrible the food was. I don't know how this place is still in business. Stay away!

A friend recommended this place to us. The service was great, no problems at all. The place itself is a little worn-out, but decent and clean. It was a Friday night and the place was hopping. The salsa we started with was hot -- the way I like it. Very tasty. Unfortunately, when my wife asked for some "mild" salsa we were informed it would be an extra $1......oh well. It's not that big of a deal, but if you're going to "penny" us to death, things are not going to go well. To our surprise the food was good - tasty. It's better than most Mexican places we've gone. Better than Rojos, Juan Miguels, and many others. It has a long way to go to compete with our "#1" Mexican spot Mexican Village - but it's dang decent for sure. Plus we don't live too far to make a quick stop every now and then. The best thing I had was an enchilada....it was great. I also had a taco that was very good. The rice, not so good....like a pile of rice flavored goo. I'm wondering how hard it is to make nice, separated Spanish rice. Most placed make a mess of it. I WOULD recommend going here for some decent Mexican good. Good staff and waiters....a pleasant experience all in all.

Pacos......been going there for over 20 years with my family. We have watched it grown from the smelly smoking place into the clean space it is now. My review today is on the service or lack there of. My mother had told me last time she was there with my brother, who id from out of town, the service was awful and the girl was rude. I ignored that and I decided I am in town now let's see how it is. I had taken my nephew shopping and decided to call ahead to see if they were still serving dinner, they sad yes until 10pm. We thought great, we had to make a detour to grab some cash since it is CASH ONLY. Now mind you as we pull up there are still people inside eating. I go inside and ask for a table for 4. The girl goes to grab menus and takes 1 step turns around and says we are no longer serving in the dining room it's carry out only. Ummmm ok????? I looked at her and said I called ahead and you guys told me that you were serving until 10pm and said nothing about carry out only!!!! I turned around and said no problem we don't need to spend our money, walked out the door and thought to myself this would have never been the case "back in the day." I miss the old Pacos but to be honest the food quality has probably gone down as well, or at least that is what the family keeps telling.....no matter I won't find out after this.

Paco's is a family tradition in my husband's family. They grew up on that side of town and enjoyed it growing up. Now we largely go once a year after an east-side cemetery visit on Black Friday. The service is... Meh. The food is Tex-Mex and NOT authentic Mexican. I've had good and bad tortillas, oily and dry cheese, etc. I do like the chips and salsa, and I enjoy the bean and cheese burritos and enchiladas with guacamole and salsa, but I don't go out of my way to drive to Mt. Clemens or anything. This year's visit was ok, but we had to ask the waitress for straws, silverware, the right size guacamole, the mild salsa we ordered, and half of my mother-in-law's order. So if you want a decent comfort food meal and have cash (CASH ONLY but they do have an ATM), go ahead. Otherwise go somewhere else. (PS, leave your large vehicles at home... The parking lot is awkward and tiny.)

  • Joe G.

Ok still at the restaurant and had to write the review .... EPIC FAILURE .... I expected Mexican it wasn't - it definitely is Tex Mex. i thought it was weird in the first five minutes and asked for mild sauce and they said that there was a charge for it, weird. I ordered a burrito and the meat wasn't seasoned. My son ordered a quesadilla and the cheese was oily, My wife ordered a taco and it was greasy. Did not like this place and will not be back

My review is based on only the bean and cheese burritos, and only ever carrying out. Based on those parameters this place rules! Make a good burrito and they will come! Priced reasonably. Love it!

I see that a lot of reviewers are giving Paco's a bad rep. I've had bad Mexican before, and to say that Pancho's has better food than Paco's is just downright misleading, as I would consider Pancho's to be one of the worst Mexican restaurant's I've been to. To put it straight, Paco's is inexpensive, no frills American-Mexican food. I've been going to Paco's for over 20 years, partly because I lived down the street, partly because of their prices, but mostly because the food is just pretty dang good and filling. I would have given the place 3 or 4 stars when smoking in restaurants was still legal though, as the place absolutely wreaked of it. Yes, they only accept cash. No, they're not "doing anything wrong". They get enough business from people who are willing to pay in cash, so why cater and lose money? Simply put, cash makes business sense sometimes. People don't realize that it costs money to accept credit cards. Enough of my ranting, and onto the food! The menu certainly 'is' lackluster. For a newcomer, you pretty much need to pick what you're used to ordering at other places. Paco's is certainly a place you come to get full, not a place you come to give your taste buds a one night stand. For what it is, it's not too bad of a Mexican dive. You get 'free' chips and salsa, and more free chips if you run out. The chips and salsa are homemade, and some of the best I've had. As far as entrées go, I normally get two bean and cheese burritos, and that's usually it. I eat pretty heartily, and sometimes two are too many. The bean and cheese burritos are freaking phenomenal. In fact, they're the best bean and cheese burritos I've ever had, and that's no overstatement. Ingredients? Beans, cheese, tortilla. Sometimes I'll mix it up and get the combo, or even something deep-fried and cheesy. And sometimes I just have to get some poppers. As I haven't been to Paco's in a few months, I can't emphasize much more about the menu, other than that you can't really go wrong with anything. The beans are good, the rice is good, and all of the tortillas are fried on-site. The food hasn't changed in the past 20 years though, so if you've been there once, you're not missing out on anything new, although they switched from Pepsi to Coke, or visa versa. The service has always been good as far as I can remember. The waiters/waitresses are always friendly, and the food is always out fairly quickly. I often wondered how they get the food out so quick with the amount of people dining. They're also used to take-outs, which is a considerable amount of their business, so don't hesitate to call ahead of time. Being from Mt. Clemens, I can attest that Paco's is and has been a local favorite for years. All of my friends in the area went there and loved it just as much. Sure, it's greasy, doesn't have much "pop", the atmosphere is dull and boring, but nothing screams comfort food to a local "Bather" more than Paco's. For what Paco's is, it's worth every bit of 5 stars in my book.

This place is totally a hidden gem in The Clem! They blow-out Poncho's all day. Been eating here for years and it is so consistent and fairly priced. I love Paco's.

In the past 3 years or so, Pacos has elevated their prices, inasmuch that its not a great deal to eat there anymore. Before the price hikes, 2 people could eat lunch there for $8. The last time I went with my lunch date (and Ive been getting the same thing for years), the bill came to $20. You also are only allowed 1 refill on your beverage and the last I checked I think a pop was raised $2.75. A side of sour cream is $1 and its a little bitty spoonful. Honestly,as much as Ive been a loyal Pacos fan since ~2001, I'd rather go to El Charro because at least at El Charro you get some mexican-type atmosphere. Onto the food. Its not 'authentic' mexican food. Its American-mexican (tex-mex). Either way, the quality of food is fair, not exceptional in any way. The servers are usually pleasant and the portions are decent. I recommend their enchiladas. I love their chicken quesadilla, but you might be in for a surprise - its not like a quesadilla Ive had anywhere else. Usually quesadillas are a shell filled with cheese (and meat if you so choose) and tomatoes, onions, etc. At Pacos, its just meat and (tons of) cheese, and jalopenos. You do not get a side plate of lettuce/onion/tomatoes, or even sour cream (that costs extra). The atmosphere of the restaurant is what you'd expect for a budget, read: what Pacos used to be, american mexican restaurant. The obligatory red seats, a sombrero hanging up by the register, just in case you forgot Mexicans wear sombreros. Its usually chilly in the restaurant in the wintertime, so keep that in mind. As said by other reviewers, its CASH ONLY but Pacos has recently added an ATM machine inside the restaurant, behind the register wall. I gave Pacos 3 stars because I liked the old Pacos better. The Pacos that was a cheap lunch place to tuck in to with good food. Now with the price hikes, and the almost $3 pop with 1 refill, Ive been exploring different places.

From working right around the corner, this is a convienet place to go to for lunch and grab a carryout. Hate that they only accept cash!

    (3)
  • Christine S.

They don't accept credit cards. Watch for the signs all over the place. Kind of funny in this day and age. I wasn't very impressed by the food or atmosphere but the staff was pleasant. My tortillas were gummy, perhaps not fresh. Beans and rice okay, corn chips pretty good. The salsa was pretty mild for a Mexican restaurant, more like what you'd find at American restaurant with a few Mexican-themed dishes. If you wanted mild salsa there was an upcharge of $1. No refills on sodas. Upcharge for any changes made from menu items. Husband liked his chorizo tacos so we'll probably go back, but on my own, I probably wouldn't. It was a bad experience, just nothing to write home about.

If I had my own person jet I would fly back just for the tamales! Their beef tamales are out f'in standing! It is a MUST stop for a fast carry out when I travel back home! Prices are great, and carry out time is nothing! Service is out of this world! They give you everything you need and more! Salsa is so damn good! Burritos are the best as well. Still love my tamales the best! They don't have a full bar, just beer and wine. It is casual, nothing fancy, just a good Mexican restaurant that has been around for 30 or more years! Best Mexican food yet in my book.

Looks like I am going to have to against the grain here, but rightfully so. This is not an authentic mexican food place. This is Tex-Mex at its worst. Appetizer: We ordered the Cheese Crisp. Cheese Crisp it is not. What they call a Cheese Cisp is commonly known as a Quesadilla. Maybe we should have ordered the Quesadilla? Would we have gotten a Cheese Crisp then? Dinner: I ordered Chile Rellenos. I saw that the menu said that the dish had eggs with it and the waitress also informed me of this. I thought to myself, "Oh, a cool twist mixing Huevos Rancheros and Chile Relleno!" It was an omelet. It was not Chile Rellenos in the slightest sense. It was an omelet with ground beef, cheese and salsa dripped over it. I ate a little less than half before I pushed it away. While waiting for my wife to finish her dinner, she didn't finish either, but at least her Enchilada resembled an Enchilada. I could clearly hear the waitress and another lady in back talking about me. The unidentified lady asked, "Did he like it?" The waitress said, "I told him it had eggs on it! He just didn't listen when I said the Chile Relleno had eggs on it." You know what? I did listen when you said it. It's what I ordered. I was fine with having eggs on my plate. Riddle me this? Why would I expect an omelet when I didn't order an omelet? In conclusion. Don't expect your dish to be what you ordered. It's also "groud beef", not ground beef according to their menu. It's even on one of the photos posted here. You will be charged for everything, including refills even though you are supposed to get one free refill according to their menu. And most of all. We all know service industry people talk junk about the customer when we are out of earshot. You DON'T do it when they can hear you. Note: In case you have the misfortune of finding yourself at this establishment. This is a cash only facility. They do have an ATM inside, but I am willing to bet the fee is outrageous.

Chips and salsa by Tostitos, refried beans you can still see the lines from the can on, and overall quality so dubious, it makes Taco Bell look like a Mexicantown original. This is as far as possible one gets from good, authentic Mexican food without going to another cuisine entirely. Strongest recommendation to avoid.

Oh Paco's, my all time favorite Mexican gold mine. I have been coming here since I've been a child and I have never once had any complaints! Lets start with the salsa and chips, always so fresh and better yet free! I even grab some hot or mild salsa for the go. But, my favorite dish has to be the taco salad. YUM! Everything here is great and fast. The only downfall to this place is it's closed on Sundays and they are old school, cash only.

Lets just say old pacos was better. If you want good authentic mexican food, go to ponchos. If you want something that tastes like taco bells evil cousin, come here! I came here for lunch and was brought stale chips and watered down salsa. Yum. Then onto my lunch i had ordered the combo plate, and talk about a mess! Looked like some mexican guy threw up on my plate! The food was tough, kinda lukewarm at best and 32$ later with my girlfriend we decided never to go there again

When I moved from MI to Ohio over 18 years ago, the only thing I really missed was Paco's. I still travel to MI to visit family, and when I do, I always stop at Paco's. My favorite is the cheese enchiladas....they are the best I've ever eaten, and I've eaten at many Mexican restaurants. I love their hot green sauce, and I always buy a pint of it to go, as I've never found any green sauce that could compare. I have to stop thinking about this place now before I start getting the cravings.

Been here a number of times. I'm always happy with the food & the service, but nothing ever blows me away. The sign on the outside claims "authentic Mexican food." Well, like so many other places in the metro Detroit area, there is very little authentic about Paco's - well, it could be authentic Tex Mex. The chips & salsa are tasty, but make sure you ask for the hot salsa - it packs a nice punch and is more flavorful then the red that is automatically brought to the table. For lunch today I had the steak, bean, & cheese burrito supreme. It tasted fine, but I like my lettuce on top of the burrito not inside. Cooked lettuce is kind of odd. Steak was tender, but tasted reheated. The beans were runny, but had some chunkiness to them as well. Rice is totally bland, so dump the salsa on it. Paco's caters to American Mexican food lovers, so there is plenty of cheese and very little spice. However, they do Tex Mex well & their hot salsa more than makes up for the lack of spice elsewhere. It's clean inside and the servers are pleasant. AND the prices are GREAT. You can get a lot of food for under $10 - in fact, I don't think anything on the menu is over $10. For Mt. Clemens, this place ain't half bad. ****CASH ONLY****

The only reason I am reviewing this place is for the people below that blatantly are lying about this place! This is a family run business that does a great job! They have burritos that rivaled the old Chi-Chi's restaurants! This is a NO FRILL, older restaurant that is a golden secret of Mt. Clemens. I have eaten here 100 times and have NEVER received stale chips or watered down salsa, I NEVER have seen a plate that looked like someone vomited in it and there is no way in hell that JOHN C payed $32.00 for two peoples lunch ...its next to impossible in this establishment. Obviously some people are out to give this place a bad name! If you get a chance you will see, it is not the best looking, up to date establishment but the waitresses and the food are very good!

We recently moved to St. Clair Shores, so the good part about that is I have all new material to Yelp, the bad part...not knowing the lowdown in the area and risking money on poor food. We stumbled upon Paco's while searching for a car wash with a vacuum to clean the car. After cleaning the car we noticed Paco's and decided on a whim to head in there. It looked like an off-the beaten bath type of place and usually we have great luck with those. Don't laugh but I always have these ideas about businesses being tax cover-ups for other sort of "activities". I know I watch and read way too much crime material... Anyways, I thought Paco's was a tax cover up for sure. This place is more basic than a white-tee, there are huge "CASH ONLY" signs everywhere (but there is an ATM, lol what year is it?). The place boasts a few basic booths and round tables, red and green walls and that is pretty much it. No cute sombreros or murals on the wall, no fancy menu (pretty sure it was a word document), no bar and no substitutions for the menu items. So naturally after viewing all of this, I was thinking one of two things, this place must have some awesome food to not have any of the smoke and mirrors you usually see in restaurants with average food OR there is a burly guy in the back with a body guard waiting on some associates for a meeting surrounded by dirty money... I know... I have quite the imagination-you should meet my family. The waitress was quick since there was only two other tables occupied, but I did find her friendly. The chips and salsa were so-so, he thought the salsa tasted like tomato soup, not exactly a good look especially since the menu said extra chips or salsa are a charge! Ouch, that rubbed my fiancé the wrong way for sure! I ordered the Chile Releno, which came basically like an omelet with egg, then meat and cheese on top quite different that all other Chille Relenos, but it was good. He ordered a combination plate that was lack luster with what appeared grocery store shells. Granted he did eat everything and I took some home, the food was good, not great, but not super terrible. I won't be returning simply because the food was "okay".

I've been eating here for years upon years. While it is certainly not the best Mexican food in the world , it is the best in the area. Good filling food for cheap. I like the tamale dinner and the burritos with the hot salsa. My only two real complaints are that they only take cash and the don't serve drinks. If your looking for good, cheap Mexican food without having to drive down town, you should check this place out.
